local hosting, worldwide traffic

I would like to start a portfolio/blog/demo website. I currently buy my hosting and domains at Belgian companies and I’m very happy with their service. My new website will not only have local visitors, but also visitors from all over the world (visitors from codecanyon for instance). Should I look out for another hosting/domain company? If so, do you have any advice?

Depends on what it is you’re doing, how much traffic you expect etc…

My portfolio/blog will run on WordPress. My codecanyon previews will be static web pages.

I currently have one codecanyon item with about 100 views a day. Lets say if I have 4 other items, that would make 500 page views a day.

I can’t really predict how much traffic i will have on my blog/portfolio, but let’s be optimistic and say 100 visitors a day

No matter where you put your website, there’s going to be visitors from far away. Just make sure you have a good hosting provider.

Also, I don’t recommend creating a demo for your CSS items. You wouldn’t want people to steal your code

Until you start hitting hundreds of thousands of hits a day I wouldn’t worry about it, especially if you are using static (cache-able) pages for the majority of your content.

That being said a better host would increase load times all around regardless of your traffic. Most smaller companies use over stressed shared hosting platforms, where a well established hosting provider has quality hardware with a better ratio of users to usage.

With hosting, you get what you pay for.

Personally, i would be asking other members on here, where the majority of their traffic comes from. Lets say its europe, then a host with a datacenter n belgium is fine.

The reason being that the less hops a user has to get from their pc to your data the quicker your site should run.

But if its say usa and canada, then a host using a datacenter in usa would make sense.

Furthermore, hosting in usa is cheaper. But be prepared if you are on an american server to perhaps have delay in communication with your host provider due to time zoning.

Once youve ironed out the continent, perhaps ask around for advice and recommendations fir good hosts within that country.
