When I first saw some of the neat FB templates here on active den, it made me want to create a FB Page. Shortly after, all this stuff about FB https came out and ever since then I have had problems with the FB templates.
I’m not a IE user, but my users/members are so I’m concern for that reason.
Some of the problems I already listed in another thread but since then I discovered some new ones so I thought it was time to start a new thread related to IE, FB and HTTPS
Also, just so you know, I’m using Social Server for a SSL certificate.
MIXED CONTENT
The first annoyance in IE is this whole mixed content warning you get when you mix content. You can turn it off in IE but how many visitors to your FB page using IE knows how to turn it off. If anything they will see the warning and run.
Here is a good link talking about this:
http://www.hyperarts.com/blog/facebook-secure-browsing-https-iframe-tabs-mixed-content-warnings/I wish there was a way to avoid the warning all together in IE.
IE’S BLACK SCREEN
Another , IE problem.
If you use IE8 and follow these steps you will see the problem.
1. Go to http://www.facebook.com/filipinaeyes
2. Click the Tab/Link on the left side that says FE Garage (I purchased this app at active den).
3. You will get a black screen.
Here is the strange part. If you load the link for the app directly into IE browser, it loads fine. So the next test is.
1. Load the following link in IE8
http://www.facebook.com/filipinaeyes?sk=app_202751606462256So the question is, why do I get a black screen when I click the link to the app from http://www.facebook/filipinaeyes but if I put the apps URL in IE8 directly it works???
Man, I have other issues, but this post is getting long. I’m sure all this is related in some way to https, but not sure what. I know it takes the enthusiasm out of using FB pages for a business page.
Thanks

The black screen issue in IE has happened even before the SSL switch, FB developers forum is full of messages commenting this bug. Seems that FB devs has not find a solution, and i guess the quite unsteady platform that IE has turned on in their last releases doesn’t help much in the solution.
Almost sure it has nothing to do with the SSL , not the social-server certificate, as i use my own certificate under my domain and also encounter the same error.
In any case, IE users are getting used to see many bugs, not only on FB but on the rest of big websites. IE is such a horrible browser, hopefully people will discover other options and it will be just a minority group in future net stadistics.
Thanks for reply. I guess for interest and FYI I will report the following from my testing:
USING IE
1. go to http://facebook.com/filipineyes
2. Click the Tab/Link on left side that says FE Garage
3. The screen goes black and I can’t even use IE back button. I’m stuck on the screen.
4. Here is what the URL is in the IE browser:
http://www.facebook.com/filipinaeyes#!/filipinaeyes?sk=app_202751606462256USING FF OR CHROME
1. I do all the above steps, and at step 3 the template displays.
2. In FF or CHROME , the URL in the browser is:
http://www.facebook.com/filipinaeyes?sk=app_202751606462256THE DIFFERENCE
By comparing the two URLs from IE and FF/CHROME, you can see there is a difference.
ONE DEVELOPER MUST OF FIGURED IT OUT
There is one flash template I bought on activeden where it works in all Browsers. Here is the link to the template on active den that I bought:
http://activeden.net/item/facebook-restaurant-hotel-template/241398So not sure what this developer is doing different than the other developers, but his template displays in IE, FF, or Chrome with no problems.
CLOSING :
Darn it. I wish I could solve this IE issue for all my active den apps. My boss wanted me to work on a facebook account and he was ready to buy apps, but now I don’t have the confidence since a lot of his users use IE (real estate customers).
LOL —I just now realized, pezflash, the one template/developer that I said “figured it out” in the above comment is YOU .
So what are you doing different that than the other developers so your template works in IE without any problems.

Not sure, but try to use my swf embeding in your other template, i didn’t setup any additional code in the flash to avoid that bug, so i guess it has something to do with the SWFObject classes.
