Hey everyone—

Just a note that we’ve now soft launched the new HTML5 category. Over the next few days, you’ll begin to see the category take shape.

After we have around a dozen items in the category or so, we’ll make the official announcement, and will begin the usual promo across our sites. As always, if your first submission to the category is ready, get it in as soon as possible, in order to be featured along with the other seed items in our promos! It’s great for exposure. :)

what happened to the competition jeff?

I think the main problem is that there isn’t a clear response to “what should we build”; A HTML5 app doesn’t seem like something that can be sold. The video player right now is good, but can we come up with another 100 or 150 ideas. I think the market is still too young to explore. May be if we turn focus (or enlarge it) with a mobile sub-category.

@omarabid – The competition concluded last Friday, and we received around 60 submissions. You’ll see some of those for sale over the course of the next few days.

I used the word “app” in broad sense. In addition to full scale apps, we’ll also be selling things like video players, HTML5 contact forms, etc. I’d imagine that the items will be quite similar to the JavaScript category, except for the obvious fact that they utilize the new HTML5 elements and APIs.

So what kind of requirements or features make up an HTML5 template?

@TylerQuinn and @rtofvnt

I think the HTML5 category is created for loose HTML5 components/applications. HTML5 templates need to be submitted to Themeforest.
