VPS = Virtual Server = you have to do all by yourself. Updates etc. If you have no idea about servers, you have the wrong hosting package.

Go get some managed server or a standard web hosting account.

It is a huge security issue for you and your customers / visitors, if you are running a sensible service on a virtual server without knowledge! I go so far and say: is irresponsible !

Not true – depends on the level of support by your hosting company – I have several dedicated and VPS servers with different companies – All updates are managed for me.

Depends on the company – I suggest that if you have little experience with servers you change to a managed VPS .

any suggestions?

I use Hostdime and Media Temple – I prefer Hostdime for their support over Media Temple’s.
