Hi guys. I start making one project and .psd that I used in that project was 6425*4852 resolution. Unfortenatly I saw that when I press render button. Does any one know the best and the fastest way ( I need this project to be done by tomorow ) how to replace that .psd with new with smaler resolution ?

I would like if the solution was that easy
I imported .psd as a composition with layers….
In Photoshop go to “Image” tab, select “Image Size…”, type in the new size, save and you’re ready to go
EDIT : The point is to overwrite the original with the one with smaller size while keeping the AE settings. Do make a copy of the original first – just copy it somewhere for safe keeping
Now I have a real mess
It should be really simple. Just create a new .psd with smaller res. Replace the old psd with the new one as shown in the screenshot. After that AE will update all compositions with the new psd file.

Maybe it is a bit offtopic, but still I want everyone to know. Script BG Renderer from AEScripts, which is $30 will make your life easier! Price is too low for what effect has in daily work. My best purchase in a long time.

That’s kinda a funny situation to be in.. There is no easy way to do this as it seems. It sure is a strange approach to use a psd, in fact it is SO strange that I can barely think of a practical use of it.. Try to keep it simple. Even if it looks like lot of unnecessary work in the beginning, situations like that prove that it is worth it. Split each of psd layers into separate files and import one by one into AE. Additionally.. render time is quite sensitive about the file size of imported footage. Scaling down in AE wont do the job. So..#1 rule when using outside graphics (at least in most of the cases..) – import just the right size of image, do most of the color correction etc. in PS and then bring it into AE. Sorry for the off topic comment.

Sounds like I’m a bit too late to the party…There was another way. Here it is, for what it’s worth.
Save off a lower res. version of the PSD .
Right click the PSD compostion in the AE Project window. Choose Set Proxy and select the lower res version. When you render, make sure that Use Proxies is set to current. Unlike replace footage, set proxy will keep all the orignal positinings / dimensions intact.
You could also set proxies for the individual photoshop layers, if you’d animated / treated them separately.
I use proxies all the time….it’s one of the best workflow time-savers. And probably one of the least used. And yes… if you’ve imported a graphic that’s too big, it can help here too.
