I don’t know if anyone has experienced this, but I would like to know if you have.
We regularly do searches in Google and other search engines on our plugin names in order to see what comes up.
It has always been nice to see that links from any of the marketplaces (in our case codecanyon) always came out as no. 1 or at least 2-3, when searching for the plugin name.
A few days ago we discovered that the codecanyon link for one of our most popular plugins has been “bumped” down to page 2 on Google. Our own demo site is 3-4, and above are sites that i don’t want to mention, but you know what I mean.
We have tried this with all 17 of our plugins and pretty much ALL of them rank 1 or 2 on Google when you search for the plugin name, however this very popular plugin has been “dumped” to page 2
Did Google punish Codecanyon in this case? Or did they punish our plugin name?

If you haven’t changed anything on your item’s description page it’s likely just a Google algorithm change. I would try analyzing and adjusting the keyword density on the file’s description then wait a few weeks and see the results.

We update our plugin regularly and recently came out with a big update, which results in new preview image and updated description. However I just thought it was strange that its bumped from postion 1-2 to 15-16.
Thank you for commenting.

We have more than a few plugins with the same faith
Didn’t change anything … Google just moved the CC links on second page. Worst thing is – first page seems reserved for “not so nice” type of links

Exactly.. that is the same in our case, but I have taken care of “business” so they are all dead links!
I asked about this on Envato support and they said they would look into it, but I don’t know if there is much they can do.

Same here
But … I always get the feeling that if we’re not amongst the first 3-4-5 links …. And second page … it’s the same as 56th
for the average surfer.

Longterm – invest more resources in SEO ; short-term – don’t know

I just think that it is strange because ALL our other plugins come up as no. 1 when you search the plugin name. I’m aware that the average user might not search for the exact name of the plugin, but it was just to “test” what actually comes up when you do.
We will try and do better SEO on our Demo site to get above the not so nice sites, but it was nice that the codecanyon always ranked 1

Did you guys have listings on the jQuery plugin site (that’s currently down) ? If so, maybe these listings had lots of Google love and are no longer being counted. I hope the new site gets up soon because I’ve lost a good deal of referrals since it’s been down

That’s so odd. I’d love to know if this is something to be worried about or not…
