I’m in the process of upgrading the disks in our FTP server… we were already having trouble keeping pace with PhotoDune’s growth, and Collis’ announcement this morning means we’re expecting even more content to come in.
I’ve had a new partition set up and (nearly) ready for a while but now I need to do the swap and I can’t do that while FTP is running.
I’m hoping to do this in around half an hours time, and not have it offline for too long.
Copying that many gigs at once takes ages.
I’ve turned FTP back on, and I’m doing a background copy instead, and then will turn it off again for a little while to make sure the last couple of files make it across.
I’ll update here again before I do anything different.
Thanks for letting us know, John.
Gigs on ftp currently (round 400ish)
As soon as someone puts them through the web form, they’re off on other storage (amazon s3 and rackspace cloudfiles) and we’ve got lots and lots of terabytes there.
I’ve given up on this finishing today, I’ve moved a certain % of FTP across, and will finish the rest tomorrow.
So, will I see a speed increase after this upgrade?
Thanks tell us!
