Hi guys,

I just found a blog where the owner promotes projects of several users using his own referral code.

Being part of the same community and curious to know his name I investigated and found out he has the red author badge (1000-5000$) and the black referral badge (100-199 users) even he made only 107 sales selling 2 items.

Obviously the big part of the amount is made by referrals.

Well, the question is: is it really possible to use this stratagem to get money? What if I use my personal code to feature all the items of all the marketplaces?

Personally I think its unfair toward the whole community, but actually I didn’t find anything about the issue in the Wiki. Here i read:
Featuring Items: You can use your site or a social service to feature an item, using your referral link.

What does it correcly mean? Am I really able to use my own referral code to feature items whose I’m not the owner?

Note: I do not intend to accuse nobody. Just want to clear things up!

Cheers,

m.

From what I understood in past threads, this is acceptable behavior.

He’s basically giving our files promotion using his own potential traffic. It’s a win-win trade off for both of us, the referrer and the author.

I’ve put a lots of time investigating this thing because I saw that some people made serious money featuring Marketplace items with their own referral code. As what I’ve understood it’s perfectly okay and I’ve featured some items myself on my blog! You can see a lot of bloggers who publish articles like “50 Best Videohive Projects”, “25 Coolest Wordpress Themes” etc. and they are all using their referring code. In my opinion it’s a win-win situation and the marketplace gets more visibility on the Internet. :)

No problem :) I had the same thoughts when I first noticed the whole referral thing but now I know that maybe some day someone will feature my item on a blog, website etc. and will drive more people purchase my files!
