I’ve been trying to find out how the search system decides on an item’s relevance for a particular keyword.

It seems that it takes item popularity into account somehow as I tried keyword stuffing the description with a particular keyword so that my item’s description has that keyword more than any other item on themeforest but it still didn’t make it to the first page for the particular search term. It has the keyword as a tag and in it’s name so this is not an issue. I can understand if this is done to prevent abusing the system the way I tried to but if this really is the case then it’s not that fair for older items in the marketplace as they could actually be just as relevant or even more relevant for that keyword but don’t stand a chance since currently popular items will always be on top.

I propose a better formula to be brainstormed to determine the relevance of an item.

What you guys think?
