So these custom header bars typically have a referral link? Isn’t that just a tad questionable?
nope. It’s called affiliate marketing.

Except for when the customer was already at an Envato marketplace to begin with, looking at your item.

You say you work for Envato but you don’t seem to be familiar with the referral system. If a buyer visits a marketplace on their own (no referral link), leave, then later click on a referral link, the referrer won’t receive a referral. In other words, if they got to the live preview from anywhere inside the marketplaces, referral links are already void making your argument invalid.

Thanks for clearing that up. I’m a reviewer; my knowledge typically ends at the accept or reject button. =)

I’ve used a splash page on multiple occasions with links to demos that open a new window ultimately ditching the frame in the process. Will this still be allowed under the new rules?

I would also like to have a custom preview window for a script with a link to “Admin Preview” and “Customer Preview”. I guess if they do not allow a _top redirect then I will have to have an iframe within the envato iframe, making the preview area smaller. Or maybe I could do a sidebar styled the same as the envato header.

Have to much free time and do not really need to “make” improvements where they are not needed? Who comes up with these ideas? We want to advertise our own related products and have a referral link, but we also want it to look the way we want. If you will make it look as ours does, than i will agree with that. But i do not think that you will do that. Look at the default one and look at ours please. We spend a lot of time on that, DO NOT MAKE US REMOVE IT !
And as someone said, i hope it takes a lot of time to implement. A lot.
The fact is that Ivor has admitted he rejected that item by mistake and later jremick kicked in and said such policy (regarding custom author iframe) will be implemented. I hope jremick had an unnecessarily brainstorming and replied to the topic without knowing there was a mistake by Ivor.
I think all of this is nothing but ludacris, no author will be ripped of money or stopped from using custom designed iframe, Themeforest cannot afford to loose any of the authors here.
Cheers

Yes but they can start rejecting items…. Lets say you are making a sidebar plugin for CodeCanyon and you want a demo bar on top to configure it. What am I supposed to do now? Set up a ton of individual pages linking them all together to make a confusing nightmare of a demo? HAve two sidebars floating on one page (horrible idea.) Sounds ass backwards to me
Currently I do not see the bars hurting the marketplace at all. What people are making in affiliate sales really cannot be the reason?
Take peerapong for example. A power elite author with 30,000+ sales and he has only referred 500 – 999 users and is currently using a frame breaker. Even if he is at 999 thats only 3.33% of his sales… And who even knows how large those deposits were.
I think allowing people with their own frames that fit a frame guideline would be the best way forward.
While your taking requested features; allow us to shut the bloody things off via our Dashboard Settings!! Every time I click Live Preview, my next click is to remove the iframe!! I guess I should also include the fact that I always right click >> “new tab” the live preview button – always! I’ve never used the “Buy Now” nor “purchase this item” to buy items in that iframe.
Beings as I’m already registered on Envato, no one makes any money by me clicking a referral link in the iframe bar.
I find that ifram a major inconvenience and have toyed around with the idea of writing a greasemonkey script to take care of the Envaot Iframe for me.
