Sometimes when customers post questions they also include a link to their website. But when this happens I end up having to flag the comment because the link points to an unobfuscated version of the script. But I hate having to do this because the customer usually just has a legitimate question and they probably think they’re being silenced or something.

When we make a post, we’re shown some info on supported HTML , smiles, etc. It would be cool if there was maybe a short message that said something like, “Posting links is not allowed. If you need to share a link, please email the author from their profile page”.

I’m sure I’m not alone in encountering this sort of thing here on CC and this might be a way to improve customer service and also lower the number of comments that have to be reviewed by staff.

Or better yet, make those links only visible for the author, and show a [Link only visible for the author] message to the rest of users..

I agree with you, I encountered many times this sort of things, but I never flagged the messages.

^ that’s a terrific idea! Yeah I hate flagging the message but the idea of spending time obfuscating a script and then just having a link to the downloadable source bugs me.

Perfect and easy to implement. Visible to the author and commenter :D

I already had some users posting their login and passwords along with their URL , they don’t realize that it’s a public place. Anyway, I agree with the above comments, it would be a nice improvement to at least hide links.

I had to flag some comments also, and when I do this I explain to the customer why. A feature to show the links only to the author and customers that purchased the product would be great.

Someone on MODS or STAFF please put this (i guess simple) request first on pipeline.
Great idea. I can’t remember the number of post i’ve flagged because of urls.
