Chrome for iPad

Just a heads up that chrome is now available for ios and I must say its perfect!

Been waiting for this and it’s not disappointing. Finally I can easily share my bookmarks from either laptop, pc and iPad.

Get it at the apps store folks.

Perfect isn’t quite the word I’d use. Google didn’t do much to the UI to make it more touch friendly. The tabs are smallish, as is the “New Tab” button. The UI is certainly better than Safari.

I find it interesting that Google added a lot of touch-based UI paradigms to the desktop version of Chrome, yet didn’t transfer those to the iOS version (specifically thinking about the New Tab page).

What about the developer console, can it be used ?

Just downloaded it onto my iPad, looks good from what I saw quickly.

Whether I’ll use it or stick with Safari on the Pad remains to be seen.

Another browser to check your sites in! Hopefully it renders the same as the desktop version.

It should render like the iOS’ Mobile Safari, because its rendering and javascript engine is used.

Apple doesn’t allow browsers that don’t use Safari for the rending, afaik…

The typical Chrome experience is not possible on iOS devices because Google is basically forced to merely skin Apple’s UIWebView contol and also can’t include their javascript engine, etc because of Apple’s developer guidelines.

So it’s Chrome but it’s not Chrome at the same time. It’s quite far from perfect IMO . It’s a decent browser on nearly every other platform beside iOS. Having Chrome on iOS in this form may just contribute further to browser fragmentation IMO but we’ll have to see about that.

I should really say that when I said perfect, it really my pov as it does everything I need my browser to do

It is already a mystery why Google separates Android’s default browser and Chrome. Also Android browser lacks consistency with each Android upgrade and now they started complicating things by dividing more versions of chrome for unnecessary devices. It is ok as long as they manage to keep same experience on different devices and OS versions, but who cares?

SimpleSites4U we can arrive a conclusion only after testing 2-3 projects with a browser. Initially everything looks smooth as native safari browser but the real pain is numerous small issues that becomes visible while developing a website.

Ironically Flash runs pretty well in the Android stock browser but JS is awful. At least on my Motorolla Xoom. I know having a browser that supports Flash is nice, but at this point I’d rather they just made Chrome the default browser since it’s so much better with JS.

^ Btw, chrome will be shipped as default browser from Android 4.1 devices, that’s a relief. However the next 12-18 months will require testing on atleast 2 android devices.
