Let’s try to hate with some facts.

I have actually tested IE9 and so far so good. Every template I’ve viewed with FF renders the same on IE9 – Box shadows, rounded corners, etc…basically all the CSS3 stuff work now. In fact I don’t think authors will have to change anything or perform any hacks.

So for once I think we should acknowledge that IE is heading the right way.

If we’re posting facts, let’s also be clear on what is still not going to be supported by IE9 :)

  • Application Cache (offline)
  • Web Workers (threads in JavaScript)
  • HTML5 Forms (validation mechanism, CSS3 selectors)
  • JavaScript Strict Mode
  • ForeignObject (embed external content in SVG )
  • SMIL Animations (SVG animations)
  • File API
  • WebGL (3D)
  • CSS3 Transitions (for animations)
  • CSS3 Text Shadow (!!!)
  • CSS3 Gradients
  • CSS3 Border Image
  • CSS3 Flex box model
  • ClassList APIs
  • FormData
  • HTML5 History API
  • Drag’n Drop from Desktop

Why people complain about ie7 is beyond my sense of basic understanding. I worked for like 2 years – doing ONLY html and css for ie6, ie7, ie8, firefox 2-3, chrome, safari and all I can tell you is that the only browser with real issues of all these was/is ie6. I rarely had any trouble with ie7 and I feel ie8 brought almost nothing(actually made javascript run so laggy) compared to ie7. Yes, they are all obsolete crappy software since they don’t have anything to do with css 3 / html 5 / modern stuff, but still, using css 2.1 and xhtml 1.0 back in 2008 – 2010 was just fine with ie7+. Haven’t tried ie9 yet, but I think it will be adopted pretty slowly since it doesn’t work on (still) most popular operating system.

Fantasic news about IE7 My hatred towards it wasn’t going to loose any day now lol. As for IE9 , I think we can always work something around those issues.

What? IE9 won’t support CSS3 gradients? That’s basic. I’m sorry but if a browser doesn’t support that then it’s not modern. Wasn’t this supposed to be the standards compliant browser that was supposed to make up for everything we’ve had to deal with in the past?

I guess I’ll still have to use Modernzr. IE9 still lags way behind.

I think that you can just add IE9 compability into the form on uploading page, that’s not a requirement, it’s some kind of feature. I uploaded a theme, it is almost the same in IE8 and IE9 , small bugs with forms and text on buttons. But in IE7 it looks sucks. So for me is better to adapt it for IE9 than for IE7 and not just because i’m lazy, that’s because it is a new browser version, 2 versions forward.

So good work guys, no IE7 ! :)
