Short Question:

Are we allowed to start a give away of our Envato Products to promote ourselfs or just for fun?

Saw it here: http://wefunction.com/2009/05/free-social-icons-app-icons/

And asked myself because that’s a cool idea :)

BTW , can we give it away to a friend or family member?

Authors may not offer their items for free on the Envato marketplaces, nor promote free items anywhere on the marketplaces. Additionally, if an author is exclusive they may not offer their item for sale on the marketplaces for free on another site without voiding their exclusivity agreement with the Envato marketplaces.

How about if they want to give a theme for free to a friend.. or your girlfriend/wife/mom/dad on their new website or wordpress blog… we are not allowed to give them for free? we must sell them to our own family/friends?

I would assume that not publicly broadcasting the fact that you gave your girlfriend/wife/mom/dad a template, as long as it’s your theme that you created, would be fine.

Besides, why offer a template for free, and try and sell it here. Kinda defeats the purpose.

Dude , stop kidding. Of course you can give it to them. Just don’t abuse it.

Or give as many copy as you want before uploading it on TF.

Jeffrey once told me you can give a free copy on your blog as long as you don’t abuse.

Just common sense.

Ha,ha… my themes.. of course… I did not buy any other theme from themeforest….

@DD .. I was a little in doubt about giving your own themes (your beautifull own creations… “babies”) that you sell on TF to friends and/or family .. but thanks for clearing that up :)

Hey guys – When in doubt, just shoot me an email for approval. sitemanager@themeforest.net.

These terms are mostly legal jargon to prevent abuse. If you, for example, are launching your new blog, and would like to give away one copy of your latest theme, we certainly have no problem with that, assuming you’ll, of course, be linking to your ThemeForest profile anyhow. :)

I don’t think this is the kind of question they want to be well known. The line between non-abuse and abuse is a massive gray soccer field, they’re relying on you do be conservative.
