Hi,

I love codecanyon, and the other envato sites, Because the scripts, themes, audio, flash etc are really really cheap, And I think this is also a problem for many authors,

So I was wondering what your thoughts are about a “donate” button to support a author or a specific item, donate straight via paypal and also display the total amount donated.

Why not just “buy” something from the author to support him? Both author and the one donating get something out of it. Besides, you can always buy the same item twice if you really want to support it :)

He May Not Want To “Give” That Much To The Person If Lets Say All Of The Persons Items Are More Then $10 What If He Just Wanted To Give $5? He Can’t Buy Half Of Someones Item =-) So He Would Like To See If CodeCanyon Will Post Something On Their Account Pages To Be Able To Give That Amount Or However Much. Just Thought I’d Say That. Donation is quite ridiculous.

It is a marketplace, would you after doing shopping at your local ALDI store, pop back in and give the checkout chick $5.00 ?

If you wish to recognise an author, by giving them extra money buy the product or buy another product of theirs or buy it again.

Donation systems, open up a whole can of “taxation” issues when run thru a “i sell products, you buy them” marketplace.

Further, having a donate link on a page would further security vulnerabilities by having to incorporate every known donation banking system within the marketplace pages.

So not a good idea in my opinion, but a viable alternative is message author direct and ask if they accept donations separately via paypal or other.

I must say that buying an item multiple times or buying another item is much better than adding a donate button.

Or simply just leave a really positive comment on the dashboard and rate the plugin if you are really happy with the author. That will definitely help indirectly to generate more sales.

Donate buttons belong only in items that are FREE . The whole idea about buying a plugin is that you get a professional looking item that is not cluttered in the admin with donate buttons and ads (I know the suggestion was about adding a donate button to the item page).

How about a quasi -‘pay what you want’ model? There could be a minimum price to buy an item and an additional field where the buyer could type in any extra amount to support the author, of which Envato only takes about 5-10%.

I’m just throwing this idea out there, but as RightHere said, rating and commenting positively on an item helps a lot too.
