OK, after searching through all Envato knowledge base, the only thing I could find is that we can’t use raster effects in .eps files.. and my next thought was “OK, so I’ll just submit the .ai file”, but this just raises other questions:

- are we required to submit an .eps file ? - if so, can we submit a package that contains an .ai with the raster effects and an .eps version without raster effects (even tough these two would look a bit different) ?

I still hope that someone will help me sort this big dilemma of mine.. I would really appreciate it!

Am I allowed to submit a vector graphic that makes use of shadows, glows and feather effects ? I mean, these are probably raster effects even if you’re working with Illustrator, right ? So I don’t know if these would affect scaling or not, and neither do I know whether vector items with such effects are rejected or not.

Hmm, does that mean we are allowed to use shadows, glows and feather effects in the vector items that we submit ?

Logo Templates
Sorry, you are not allowed to upload logos. Well you can, but we don’t accept them. ;-)
In before anyone asks why: Unfortunately we can’t accept files labelled or positioned as a “Logo”. The reason is that should a user purchase an item and use it as their logo they could then make use of trademark law to pursue other buyers of the same graphic. Consequently GraphicRiver items are not permitted to be used in this way, and we cannot accept files with this purpose.
gosh, that’s just sad… we’ll, I’m gonna have to look for some logo-oriented websites :) thank you very much for your reply, and I’m sorry I started a thread that already exists.. I totally forgot to search the forums!
if you need to know some logo oriented sites let me know. Currently as u know I don’t have time for this stuff much so I just thought that if someone else might like to know about them, I’d be really happy to give links.

Well, if you know other logo sites excepting logopond / brandstack / logotournament, I’‘ll be glad to hear them :) As a note, I’d preffer sites that pay you for your logos.

I was wondering: why doesn’t GraphicRiver have a “Logos” category ? We could submit logos for imaginary brands, and buyers could take them and customize the text, and even the design if they need to.

Before I heard of GraphicRiver, I was designing logos for people in my country, and when I signed up on GR the first thing I searched for was the Logos category – and I was pretty disappointed to see that there is no such category.

So, what’s the reason for the unavailability of this category ? Is it because of those huge existing logo websites around the web ? That doesn’t block other logo websites to appear on the web..

I always forget to backup my photoshop styles/actions and my browser bookmarks lol :( Sucks.

You should use XMarks for browser bookmarks :) Not only it synchronizes the bookmarks between browsers, but it also stores them online. It’s definitely a live saver for me.

Do you recommend any?

Actually, I do recommend a book, and that’s O’Reilly’s “Head First PHP & MySQL”. I love the Head First books because they learn you stuff in an unique, both fun & serious way.

But…

If you need to learn some real world situations and how to deal with them using php & mysql, I recommend these two books: Wicked Cool PHP : Real-World Scripts That Solve Difficult Problems and PHP Cookbook: Solutions and Examples for PHP Programmers.

If you wanna learn php & mysql and also how to integrate both with JavaScript for some Ajax techniques, i’d recommend this one: Learning PHP , MySQL, and JavaScript: A Step-By-Step Guide to Creating Dynamic Websites

If you just wanna now almost everything about PHP , this one is the one you’ll need: O’Reilly’s Programming PHP which covers almost every aspect of PHP , but only if you need to master PHP ..

The book I’ve learned from was “Head First PHP & MySQL”, because I just love the Head First series.. I’ve also learned Design Patterns from this series, Web Design (covers lots of aspects that web designers don’t even know about), Java (while I was in University), C# and Object Oriented Design. They just rock, and are even better than the “for Dummies” series!

If you’ll search Amazon for “Head First”, you’ll find an incredibile source of [interactive] learning. So, once again, I recommend any Head First book from all my heart (and brain :) ).

I wish you good luck at learning what you need, and I’ll be waiting for you to submit some cool PHP scripts :)

Hey everyone,

About 3 weeks ago I decided to learn PHP from A to Z. I tried lots of different tutorials, they all teach in a different ways and I get confused at the end of the tut and till now I only learned the very basics of PHP and I can’t find any place to get a decent tutorials from.

My question is, how did you get started with PHP ? how did learn it ? I believe that practice is the best way to learn but what is the best way to get that done.

Thanks in advance guys

Whatever I need to learn, I gotta have a book about it… I’ve learned PHP using a PHP & MySQL book.. Usually, I need a book to learn a new programming language from A to Z (sounds like a “from Novice to Professional” book)..

The books are very detailed and very well organized, while online tutorials are a total mess for me.. every tutorial teaches something else and in a different way (and that is because every tut author has learned it differently), so it’s kind of overwhelming because I have to relate each tutorial and re-organize the information in my head.. it’s chaotic!

When it comes to using software apps, I really need a video tutorial (like those from lynda, VTC , total training, and so on)... anything else is not helping me (online tutorials have the same issue as stated above, and books are really boring because of the too-many static images)..

So, have you tried buying a book ? But before buying just any book on that subject, you should first see what other books there are for the same subject, read each book’s description, and choose the one that you think it suites your needs.

Alright, well I learned Fireworks instead of Photoshop (Probably a mistake, but that’s what the course was about and I had no control over that) and was wondering what things that opens up for me here at GraphicRiver…? I normally frequent Themeforest, but I hate coding and they only have a PSD section, not a Fireworks layered PNG section.

After I joined the Envato marketplaces, the first thing I wanted to publish was an abstract background made in fireworks.. but when I saw that envato accepts PSD as the primary format, I was very angry because I didn’t understand why..

So after some years of working with fireworks, I saw myself forced to learn how to do the same things I’ve done in fireworks, but with Photoshop.. at that time I was using Photoshop only for image manipulations, retouching, fixing, and so on.. just for image editing. It was so hard to work with Photoshop in a non-image editing workflow, but I managed to learn it..

In my opinion, you should start learning how to do the same things you were doing in fireworks, but in Photoshop.. it’s the best you can do at the moment. Try and play for some while with PS, try to recreate your fireworks works… you’ll see that soon you wont even remember FW :) try to tell yourself that you’re moving to the “next step”..

P.S. I was forced to learn PS for web design because most of the Envato graphics were made using PS, and not FW.. so you’ll have to stick to the marketplace’s standards, or else you’ll be working just for the fun of it, because it won’t be what most of the buyers will be searching for.. but they, this is what I’ve done, and it’s totally my opinion.. take it as an advice, or leave it :P
