I don’t have a strong opinion on this issue, but it seems like both of the mods that responded misunderstood what SportTipsWorld is describing.

The issue is with the list view, not the home page. Click the ‘All Files’ link and you should see what he’s referring to…

If an author uploaded 30 files in the same day, he could push all other authors from the first page, even if other authors uploaded files on the same day. This could definitely be unfair…

I’m the senior reviewer here—trust me, I get the issue. The problem then becomes how to properly handle this situation. Do you put items on hold just because the author wants to get everything done at once, even if they’re all good? How do you handle the situation when you extrapolate this to items from multiple authors. Say 20 outstanding authors all submit outstanding items on the same day? Should I approve just the first 10 good items and put everything on hold? Should we be messing with the queue that much?

The issue of limiting author submissions may not be a huge deal now but as the marketplace grows, this introduces several new precedents that I, personally, wouldn’t like to see. Of course, I don’t make the decisions around here so I’m just spouting what I’m thinking.

It’s not up to us to dictate how often an author can submit his items. Plus, only one of his items show up on the home page. Add that with the number of items we approve per day and it’ll be gone quite soon any way.

Trust me, we get at least 10 slider items every day. The ones we let through include at least one fresh idea, UX improvement or some other aspect which we deem sufficient for a high quality marketplace.

I get what you’re saying with sliders as they’re getting quite saturated. And trust me when I say that the approval:submission ratio on those is 1:15.

The problem with limit is how to define and enforce said limit fairly. Authors are an incredibly smart bunch and come up with fresh little features all the time. Saying we will only approve, say, 10 sliders, can make a big chunk of the author base quite unincluded. This also raises the question of what happens when new items with better features come in. Do we ask the older ones to delete? Or should we go after the one with the lesser features? Each option raises so many more questions.

I’m not trying to be difficult here: I’m genuinely curious. Uniqueness is an incredibly hard aspect to define and enforce, from a first hand perspective and I’d really love to hear any specific ideas you may have.

I’m curious, how do we differentiate between ideas and items? Should items that perform the same functionality be banned based on this rule? This will basically reduce CodeCanyon to a ‘one item per idea’ marketplace.

Code infringement gets dealt with without problems but the idea vs item aspect is one area where I’d like to hear more about.
